Travelling to Denmark for Easter: What you need to know
The Danish traffic directorate warned in its Easter forecast that traffic will be difficult as people travel and visit their families for the Easter holiday. Most of the traffic on these days will be directed from Copenhagen to and through Funen and then to Jutland.
The directorate expects heavy traffic on road 11 between Ribe and Ringkøbing, road 16 towards Hillerød and road 21 towards Sjællands Odde, where the ferry departs for Aarhus. Work is being carried out on the E45 highway between Vejle and Skanderborg, which may lead to longer travel times. On Easter, work will begin on the E47 section, where it turns into a ring road around Copenhagen, with narrower lanes and, as a result, longer travel times. You can follow the traffic situation on the website Trafikinfo.dk or by tuning in to the P4 Trafik radio while driving," thelocal.dk writes.
Sund & Bælt, the company that operates the Great Belt and Øresund bridges, expects 250,000 cars to use the toll plazas during the Easter holidays, about the same number as the number of cars that cross the bridge during the whole week. As a result, there will be longer queues than usual at the toll plazas on the Great Belt Bridge on March 31 (Easter Sunday) and April 1 (Easter Monday) in the direction of Zealand. To avoid queues, the company recommends setting up automatic payment for license plates on brobizz.com.
Those travelling between Copenhagen and Aarhus will have to get off the train and take buses between Fredericia and Horsens due to track work that will last from March 27 to April 1.
There are no strikes in Denmark this year that directly affect airports or airlines. However, strikes in Spain and the UK may affect your Easter travels if you plan to travel abroad.
Airport workers in Valencia and Madrid, two of Spain's busiest airports, have announced that they will be on strike for Easter. At Madrid-Barajas airport, the UGT union has called a strike by Platform Management Service (SDP) workers on Friday, March 29 from 7 a.m. to 12 p.m. At Valencia airport, flights may be delayed from Thursday, March 28 to Monday, April 1 from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. when workers protest outside the Terminal 1 building in Manises.
Lufthansa reached a deal with ground staff on Wednesday, March 27, averting the risk of strikes over the Easter holidays that could have affected flights to and from Germany from Norway.
