The "5, 4, 3, 2, 1" rule: an expert shared packing advice to help save space in your suitcase
Traveling is almost always an exciting adventure, the anticipation of which makes your chest tighten, but packing a suitcase often becomes a headache for many travelers who want to look great while on the road. Dresses, shoes, and tops that you want to take with you take up a lot of space, but there is a trick to make the most of your space and pack only what you need.
Jessica Dante, a travel expert and founder of Love and London, shared with Express a simple trick to help you pack. For herself, she chose to use the "5, 4, 3, 2, 1" rule.
"The '5, 4, 3, 2, 1' rule is also brilliant when you're traveling and really helps you choose things - think about five tops, four bottoms (you can mix them up, i.e. jeans, shorts, etc.), three types of shoes and two accessories (either for the weather or for the outfit) and finally one evening outfit," the expert explained.
Such a fashion capsule will help you change your outfits every day but not pack a full suitcase. If you need to fit bulky clothes, bags that can be vacuumed to reduce their size are very helpful.
"I also like to roll dresses and shirts that are prone to creases. By rolling them gently, you won't create creases... Once you arrive at the hotel or other place you're staying, just remember to unfold your items and ideally hang them up so that gravity will straighten out any little creases in the fabric," the packing expert added.
Tourists were also advised to pack socks or underwear in side or front pockets to save space in the main compartment.
