A buffet breakfast is one of the best parts of a vacation.
These continental dishes with croissants, cheeses, and delicious orange juice will help you get into the right frame of mind for the day. But if you're health-conscious, it might be helpful to know that there are more nutritious options you can choose from at breakfast, according to the Huffington Post.
Healthy lifestyle advocate Michael Mosley can help you with that, as he shared his list of foods to avoid while eating breakfast on vacation.
Top 5 forbidden foods:
- Fruit juices and dried fruits
- Pastries
- Cereals
- Muffins and cakes
- Pancakes
Recent studies show that processed foods such as muffins, cakes, and pastries are not good for our health.
What should you eat instead?
If you want to maintain your energy levels and stay healthy while on vacation, Mosley recommends these breakfast foods instead:
- Omelets - In some hotels, you can choose your own fillings in the kitchen, so don't be shy about adding vegetables. Eggs are especially healthy for breakfast as they contain about 6 grams of protein per serving and are rich in nutrients and minerals.
- Greek yogurt - Rich in protein, calcium, and iodine, Greek yogurt with fresh berries is a great way to start the day.
- Vegetables - You will often find vegetables such as spinach, tomatoes, and mushrooms at the breakfast bar, which fortunately go very well with eggs.
- Cheese, nuts, and avocados - These are great healthy fats to add to your plate as they will keep you feeling fuller for longer.
