3 things that can help overcome aerophobia
Flying in an airplane is accompanied by a certain amount of anticipation and excitement before arriving at your destination. However, not all people can properly appreciate the romantic atmosphere of traveling and be inspired by the journey.
Milena Nigam from Business Insider Nederland shared effective methods to help overcome the fear of flying, which her therapist told her about. She assured me that these 3 ways help her fight aerophobia by reducing anxiety during flights.
You don't control the flight, but you control yourself
You can't control whether the plane will crash or not, but you can make the most of your last moments. You can hug your loved ones who are flying with you, or yourself with your arms, simulating a hug with another person, or remember people dear to your heart by filling your mind with their images. However, please note that this is only a recommendation for a potential situation. Remember that flying with airplanes is considered much safer than driving a car.
The reaction is quite normal
Do not focus on the physical symptoms of anxiety. They are not a sign of real danger, but only your reaction to fear. Thus, you may experience shaky legs, dizziness, nausea, or stomach discomfort. Take this for granted, because it's completely normal.
Control during turbulence
Milena Nigam says that in case of turbulence, she tells herself the following: "I'm scared, but what I'm doing is very safe." In addition, Nigam advises reading, listening to music, looking at the clouds, and taking your blanket with you during the flight.
