Where to hide cash in a hotel room and how to protect other belongings: A few life hacks
Sometimes you should think about protecting your money and belongings in a hotel room because all hotel staff can have access to them.
No matter how good the hotel you booked is, it's better to be safe, Obsev writes.
Where to hide cash
When you stay in a hotel, your room should feel like a cosy sanctuary. However, unlike your own home, hotel staff and others have easy access to your space. If your hotel room doesn't have a safe, here's a handy trick: take a flat comb and remove the rubber part. Slide the cash underneath and replace the rubber part. For added security, keep the comb in your suitcase.
How to bypass the key card system
Hotels are becoming increasingly energy efficient, opting for key card systems to save on electricity. When you enter your room, you'll notice a hole on the wall where you insert your key card to activate the power. But here's a little tip: if you plan to charge your phone when you're away, try using a business card or a loyalty card instead of a key card to keep the power on. While this trick may not work everywhere, it's definitely worth a try!
Put up a "Do Not Disturb" sign
To ensure uninterrupted privacy and protect your belongings, don't forget to hang a "Do Not Disturb" sign on your hotel room door even if you're not around. This simple action signals hotel staff to refrain from entering your room to clean. It also acts as a deterrent to potential thieves, especially in hotels with an external entrance.
How to save money on room service
After a tiring day, you want to order room service. However, be prepared to pay extra. If you want to save money on the same meal, consider leaving your comfy bed and heading to a restaurant instead. You can also opt for takeout if you prefer to eat your meals in the privacy of your room.
Pack food for the road
Going on a long trip? Consider taking leftovers from the buffet for the road. Think extra slices of toast or handy peanut butter and jelly packs to make a quick sandwich. Or, if you like a healthier option, grab some fresh fruit like bananas or apples. And don't forget to pack a few cartons of yogurt for later, along with disposable spoons to keep things convenient.
