Traveling with pets: tips and tricks
When we take our pets with us, we want to share the impressions and emotions of the trip with them. However, not all owners take into account that such a trip can be quite a challenge for animals.
How can you prepare for a trip with your pet and create a comfortable and stress-free atmosphere for them? The Deseret News told us about it.
Visit the vet for documentation
Some tourist destinations require pet owners to provide certain information about their pets' health and identification. This includes microchips, permits, blood tests, vaccinations, and health certificates. In addition, there are entry restrictions in some countries, for example, there is a temporary suspension of dogs entering the United States from high-risk countries due to canine rabies.
Traveling by car
If you're concerned about how your pet will feel on an airplane, you may want to consider traveling by car. In addition, there are no specific rules regarding documentation for a pet in a car. That's why you can make sure your friend is safe under your supervision.
To ensure comfortable conditions during the trip, consider the following points:
- the schedule of stops;
- go on short trips and gradually increase the distance;
- do not feed during the trip and make sure the animal drinks water;
- be considerate of others and take care of your pet's safety;
- help your pet get used to the restrictions, if necessary.
Hotel accommodation
Research and choose places where pets are allowed. Also, follow the following rules to avoid regretting your choice:
- Find out what the rates, rules, and restrictions are for pets. In particular, what kind of animals can be accommodated and whether you can leave your pet unattended;
- ask the administration about the noise level of the hotel to prevent stress in the animal;
- book a room on the ground floor to take your pet outside quickly and prevent excessive fuss;
- bring trash bags, disinfectant sprays, cleaning products, or wipes to keep your pet clean and healthy.
