They will amaze you: 10 requests flight attendants won't be able to fulfill
Perhaps not everyone knows what the duties of flight attendants are. They are called "cabin guards". They're not just there to bring you drinks and snacks; they're safety stewards, passenger advocates, and passenger support throughout the flight. And while they can do a lot, there are some excessive requests that they simply cannot fulfill.
Travel+Leisure talked about some of the most surprising requests flight attendants have received from passengers - some of which they were miraculously able to fulfill.
Parachute
Luke Xavier, a former Delta flight attendant and founder of USA Rover, shared that a passenger asked for a parachute during the flight in case of an emergency. Such a request cannot be fulfilled, but the flight attendant will try to make the flight as comfortable and enjoyable as possible.
Fried chicken
Susan Fogwell, a flight attendant with 22 years of experience working for major airlines, has an unusual request from a passenger to fry his chicken. He likes its crispy crust. Unfortunately, the galley (the kitchen on the plane) has a lot of options, but deep frying is not one of them.
Water for the falcon
Fogwell said that passengers often ask for water, but this particular request was unusual. A cadet from the Air Force Academy came on board with a falcon on his arm and asked for a bowl of water for it. The falcon is the mascot of his school.
Transfer to the hotel
Flight attendants help you in the cabin. However, when the flight ends and you get off the plane, their work is over. Therefore, it is not their responsibility to find a hotel for you and help you get there.
Special orders in food
Additional food and drink is one of the most frequent requests, according to flight attendants. However, it happens that passengers ask for something that is not on the menu. The airline cannot fulfill requests for completely different dishes or special orders. There are some dishes that are difficult to prepare in the kitchen on board.
Live cat and mice
Yes, flight attendants have received such a request. Alison Meacham said that one of the families asked to bring them a live cat and a bag of live mice for their daughter. Obviously, such a request could not be fulfilled.
Space for a snake
Former flight attendant Carly Campbell shared that one of the craziest requests was from a passenger traveling with a pet snake in an aquarium and asking if he could take it on the flight as carry-on baggage. This was a challenge for the entire crew and additional measures had to be taken to ensure that the animal was allowed on the flight.
Raw fish
Campbell told about another strange request from a passenger: he asked if he could take fish on board and cook it in the galley during the flight. This request was rejected, as cooking on board is not only against the rules, but also dangerous due to the limited space and potential fire hazards.
A chicken that would lay fresh eggs for breakfast
Carly told us that on a flight from Los Angeles to Tokyo, a passenger asked if he could bring a live chicken on board to have fresh eggs for breakfast in the morning. Such a request is dangerous. No matter how much passengers ask, safety must remain the top priority.
Reducing aircraft noise
Ben Watman, Air New Zealand's in-flight service manager, says he's often asked if there's a way to reduce airplane noise because it interferes with sleep. Modern airplanes are designed to be as quiet as possible. However, you'll still hear noise from the engines and air as you race through the sky at about 500 miles (805 kilometers) per hour.
