These parks offer the best views of the 2024 solar eclipse
Being in the path of a total solar eclipse is a tremendous amount of luck, and it will greatly enhance your viewing experience. Take it from all those eclipse hunters who travel for miles, days, to be in the path of the eclipse.
The day of the eclipse will come on April 8, 2024. Thrillist.com has prepared some tips to help you get an unforgettable experience of this spectacle.
This year, there will be more than 100 national and state parks along the path, which means you can experience everything while being surrounded by beautiful nature and possibly participating in some fun activities. Most of these parks organize real parties during the eclipse, so even if you haven't planned anything yet, you can rely on them to get some great emotions.
Cuyahoga Valley National Park, Ohio
On April 8, only two national parks will be on the path of unification, and Cuyahoga Valley is one of them. Here, you can experience a magnificent celestial event in a 33,000-acre park that consists of gorgeous forests and glades. Since it is the only national park nearby, it is expected to be quite crowded, so get there early.
Hot Springs National Park, Arkansas
Arkansas is home to the second of the two national parks that will be on the path of wholeness, namely the iconic Hot Springs National Park. If you choose this destination, get ready to surround yourself with hot springs or hike one of the many hiking trails - and maybe take a dip and relax in one of the bathhouses after watching the eclipse.
Kouchibouguak National Park, Canada
This isn't technically in the US, but it's still worth mentioning. If you find yourself north of the border on April 8, consider watching the eclipse from Kouchibouguak National Park in New Brunswick. Its beautiful lagoons and dunes will provide a breathtaking backdrop for the celestial event of the year.
Niagara Falls State Park, New York
Needless to say, Niagara Falls State Park is one of the best state parks from which you can catch everything. Head to Horseshoe Falls to get the best seats for the eclipse, but make sure to plan as there are expected to be a lot of other stargazers in the park. Similar to other parks, you can expect a bunch of eclipse-themed public events throughout the park.
Garner State Park, Texas
Texas is one of the key states for a total solar eclipse in terms of both weather forecasts and position. So Garner State Park should be on your radar if you plan to watch the event from there. Located in Uvalde County, the park will be filled with astronomers, researchers, and eclipse fans, and there will be many events for viewers to enjoy. In addition, with its 15 trails and approximately three miles of river to swim in, it offers a variety of landscapes from which to enjoy this phenomenon.
Beavers Bend State Park, Oklahoma
If you find yourself in Oklahoma on April 8, you might want to check out Beavers Bend State Park. With access to Broken Bow Lake and the Mountain Fork River, you'll enjoy the water spaces and plan your day around them. Here you can engage in a variety of activities, including water skiing, fishing, and horseback riding.
Lake Wappapello State Park, Missouri
Missouri will be a popular destination for eclipse day, as 14 state parks are located on the path of the eclipse. Among them, Lake Wappapello State Park offers one of the longest periods of totality (over four minutes) as well as great waterfront views.
