The best time to visit Dallas: locals' opinion
From world-class sporting events and museums to an ever-growing list of restaurants and luxury hotels, Dallas is one of those cities that can confidently - and rightly - claim to have something for everyone. This also means that, as with most big cities, there are plenty of reasons to visit throughout the year.
That said, there are better times to explore Dallas than others, and several locals have told us so. So, there is no specific high season in Dallas, but the waves of tourism usually fall between March and October. Early spring and late fall can be considered the off-season in Dallas, although this can vary depending on the weather and major events. And the low season is from December to February. This was reported by travelandleisure.com.
"I don't think there's a time when you can avoid Dallas, but often the weather is the biggest deterrent. Yes, summers are hot, temperatures regularly reach the mid-90s, and the winter months are considered cold," says John Paul Barnes, chef at The Joule restaurant.
If you want to escape from the terrible heat or outdoor activities, book a trip in the fall. "October is a great time to visit because the weather is perfect, all the sports teams are in action, and the Texas State Fair takes over Fair Park and puts the whole city in a great mood," says Jonathan Thompson, host of the Discovery Channel's Cities of Adventure in Dallas.
The best time for fewer crowds
To avoid crowds, it's worth checking the city's events calendar. Typically, fall attracts a large number of travelers due to the incredible weather, events like the Texas State Fair, and, most importantly, the resumption of the Cowboys football team, says Barnes. Thompson shares his opinion, noting that you're more likely to encounter traffic jams, crowded restaurants, and long lines.
However, if you plan a trip in winter, crowds will be smaller. In recent years, there have been quite strong ice storms here, so guests did not want to get caught in them.
The best time to visit for good weather
The best weather in Dallas is in spring and fall: from March to May and from September to October. This mild, pleasant weather combines with outdoor events such as Dallas Blooms and Fall at the Arboretum.
The best time to visit for low prices
To find great deals on hotels in Dallas, it's best to travel in winter and check the calendar before booking. "Prices fluctuate because they depend on occupancy levels. Therefore, you may be better off not booking a trip on a popular weekend. However, nightly prices tend to be lower towards the end of the year due to lower occupancy," notes Barnes.
Dallas' incredible access to cities around the world provides some flexibility when it comes to saving money on travel. It has two major airports that are hubs for both American Airlines and Southwest Airlines. Therefore, there are always great deals when you plan to visit Dallas, says Thompson.
The best time to attend sporting events and festivals
You won't be bored in Dallas, especially if you're a fan of sports, art, and food. "There's a lot going on in the DFW metro area, from professional sports teams like the Dallas Cowboys, Texas Rangers, and Dallas Stars to major musical acts and festivals like the Texas State Fair," says Barnes. The best time to attend such events depends on your interests.
The worst time to visit
"The top three reasons to visit Dallas are shopping, sports, and the incredible restaurants that are here, and none of them are weather dependent. So I would say all 12 months are a great time," Thompson explains.
"But if you come in the summer, be prepared for the heat. There's a good chance you'll be spending most of your time in air-conditioned spaces, but you'll still want to have sunscreen, breathable fabrics, and sunglasses on hand as you move between restaurants and tourist attractions.
