"Subway shirts": Women on TikTok share how to make yourself less visible to men in public transportation
According to a survey commissioned by UN Women UK, seven out of ten (71%) women in the UK have experienced some form of sexual harassment in a public place. At the same time, women aged 18-34 were most likely to experience sexual harassment on public transport.
It is noted that we are talking about sexual comments (27%), intrusive gaze (25%), constant questioning (19%), harassment and surveillance (15%). Thus, some women try to artificially make themselves less visible by wearing baggy clothes or shirts. This was reported in HuffPost.
As a result of this problem, some women on TikTok began to share their feelings, sad experiences, and some life hacks on the network, including "subway shirts."
This is how Alex Palmer, known on TikTok as @seriousactress, explains the concept in her video, saying, "If you're wearing a cute outfit and riding the train, don't forget your shirt on the subway."
In addition to wearing clothes that hide most of their bodies, women often pretend to be on the phone. They also act as if they are listening to music and say they already have a boyfriend if a man tries to take their phone.
