Signals that indicate that something is wrong in your hotel room
No matter how nice a hotel is or what services it provides, there are certain things that clearly signal that it is better to leave. We are talking about bedbugs and the risk of bringing them home after spending the night in a place that has become a haven for these insects.
HuffPost reported that according to a survey by the University of Kentucky and the National Pest Management Association (NPMA), hotels were ranked third most popular for bed bugs. Here are the factors that will help you determine if your room has bed bugs.
First, you should pay attention to the bed and inspect the room to make sure that the room has been cleaned and that there is fresh linen. If you see something unusual in addition to a clean bed, this is a signal to immediately evacuate the room and the hotel as a whole.
Here's what to look for:
Blood. If you crush the bugs, a lot of blood may remain because these insects feed on it. You can tell that the bed is infested with bedbugs by rusty and brown spots.
Eggs. Tiny bed bug eggs can be found anywhere on the surface of the bed or furniture. They are about 1 mm wide and pale yellow in color.
Musty odor. Everyone has probably experienced a strange smell in a hotel at least once in their life. The odor emitted by bed bugs is quite characteristic and quite strong. The intensity of the smell indicates the number of bed bugs in the room: the stronger the smell, the more bed bugs there are.
Dark spots on the walls. Dark spots are traces of insect feces. It is better not to touch them.
Bed bugshells. They look like small and crispy onions. They can be found among the fabric, so check mattresses, headboards, sofas, and any other upholstery.
Aged upholstery. It is unlikely that the hotel thoroughly cleans the old fabric. However, bed bugs can live in such a place.
White spots on the furniture. Small white spots on the furniture may indicate the presence of eggs laid on the furniture.
Bites. You may feel bites on yourself if you didn't notice signs of bed bugs in advance or didn't do a pre-move-in inspection. A bed bug bite has characteristic red spots that itch unbearably. As a rule, they form a straight line across the body.
