In Italy, a Copper Age necropolis with 22 tombs has been found: photos and videos
A significant Copper Age necropolis was discovered in the town of San Giorgio Bigarello in northern Italy. It dates back approximately 5,000 years.
The discovery of the necropolis was surprising due to the quantity of excavated tombs (22 in total) and the artifacts found within them, as reported by Archaeo Reporter.
The initial isolated tombs were excavated between November 2023 and January-February 2024. They represent only a small portion of a larger cemetery, the exact dimensions of which are challenging to establish due to its centuries-long obscurity.
Various flint weapons, such as skillfully crafted daggers, flawless arrowheads, and blades, were found in many of the tombs, according to archaeologists.
Additionally, jewelry was discovered, including beaded necklaces dating back to the fourth millennium BC.
The majority of the burials consist of individual inhumations, with the deceased lying on their left side, legs bent toward the chest, and heads turned to the northwest. Researchers found 22 graves at a depth of about 40 centimeters below the ground.
