How to save on airfare: tips from an expert
Bobby Laurie, who worked as a flight attendant for US Airways and Virgin America, shared a secret that will help you save money on airline tickets. According to the travel expert, people can overpay by making a gross mistake.
It turns out that an excessive search for the desired flight can lead to its price increase. In the end, some tourists pay for economy as if it were business class, Business Insider writes.
Airlines and online travel agencies use "dynamic pricing," which means that the more popular a flight is, the more expensive the ticket will become over time.
Bobby advised not to search for the same flight every day, monitoring prices on the same search engine and from the same device. This interest may not play into the favor of passengers.
Instead, it's better to consider booking tickets for the cheapest – unpopular – days and times, or even look at upgraded tickets that may cost more.
"If a lot of people are looking for economy class flights, the price will go up. I have seen many situations where first class or premium economy was cheaper than a bus ticket," the expert explained.
When booking tickets with major American airlines, it is not recommended to buy a refundable fare option.
Direct flights are not always the most profitable. Connecting flights can often be much cheaper, and alternative companies and routes can be a wallet saver.
