How to have the best vacation when you go on a shoulder season vacation: several advantages
Depending on the destination, traveling at the right time can cut costs in half. At the same time, the shoulder season is becoming an increasingly popular time to travel, writes the Daily Mail.
A trip for a family of four from New York City to the Amalfi Coast in Italy will cost nearly $11,000 in August, according to Expedia, a package booking service that includes flight and accommodation.
But the same vacation-staying at the Cetus Hotel in Keter-would cost less than $5,000 in April, when the "shoulder season" typically begins.
Pamela Garza, founder of the Tory Ellers travel agency, said that while she would not send people to Italy's Amalfi Coast in the dead of winter, she does suggest avoiding the middle of summer.
"I advise people to avoid July and August on the Amalfi Coast, even if it means you have to deal with a few cloudy days," she said.
A recent survey of 200 travel professionals conducted by Zicasso found that the early season is becoming increasingly popular, with 41 percent of respondents reporting a steadier influx of travelers throughout the year.
