How to ask for an upgrade properly: Tips from flight attendants
The desire to travel in a comfortable business class seat may seem too expensive. However, you shouldn't give up prematurely either. According to flight attendants, the chances of getting an upgrade are much higher if you know how to ask for it properly.
Crew members usually do not have the authority to upgrade, so the first step should be to contact an airline representative at the check-in desk. This is what flight attendants told Velloy.
Be polite and sincere and clearly state your request. Explain why it is important for you to get an upgrade. It may be due to health problems or other valid reasons.
If the receptionist doesn't have a free upgrade available, they may offer a discounted ticket or other privileges.
A flight attendant from Virgin Atlantic said, "If you're afraid to ask, it's always worth checking your flight online before you go to check-in. A quick search on the airline's website will show you if all the seats in business or first class are already sold out, and you'll know it will not worth asking. However, you shouldn't rely on this alone as people always forget to show up for a flight."
In the end, only those passengers who are brave enough to ask for an upgrade and try their luck will get it.
As TravelWise previously reported, a former flight attendant shared when passengers should be concerned about their safety.
