From this secret location, you can enjoy the best view of the Sphere in Las Vegas
There's no doubt that the Sphere has had a significant visual impact on Las Vegas. The massive 366-foot-tall, 516-foot-wide LED ball projects smiling emoticons and abstract graphics, transforming into a giant basketball, Halloween lantern, and more.
The sphere can be seen from almost anywhere in the city—from the seat of an airplane approaching Harry Reid International Airport to a hilltop in Red Rock Canyon, 20 miles away. But what's most amazing is the lengths people go to in order to capture the perfect moment of its radiance for Instagram," writes Travel + Leisure.
All you need is a good vantage point, and for some, that costs a few dollars. Several parking garages in the nearby Hughes Center have some of the best views of the Sphere's nighttime projections from up close.
"We just started getting crowds and crowds of people every night. They were just showing up on campus, wanting to see the sphere," Brandon Myers, general manager of LAZ Parking, the company that manages the seven-bay parking garage, told Travel + Leisure. "The sphere can be seen from all over the city, so we didn't think people would be willing to pay to sit and watch it. It definitely took us by surprise, but it quickly became a regular occurrence for us."
The complex has 4,300 parking spaces, and during the day, most of them are reserved for employees and tenants. As interest grew, LAZ Parking opened the lot to the public, charging between $25 and $40 depending on the event. Visitors taking part in the 50-minute Postcard from Earth show pay less than those parking before a U2 concert, for example.
But it has become a spectacle that now attracts tour buses and visitors every night. What is Myers' advice on the best time to see the Sphere? "Right after sunset, when the sky is all these beautiful colors," he says. "I think those are the coolest pictures I've ever seen."
