Balanced diet and healthy sleep: Singapore Airlines passanger shares his experience of the longest flight in the world
Aviation reporter Zach Wichter took the world's longest flight from New York to Singapore on March 11-13, returning home on March 16. He flew as a guest of Singapore Airlines to review the airline's new premium economy class offerings.
Wichter spoke about the features of the longest scheduled commercial flight and shared his own tips for improving the conditions during the flight. This was reported by AOL.
Zach Wichter says that the flight lasts almost a whole day, and therefore the service on board is even more important. In particular, this applies to food, which, according to Antony McNeil, Director of Food and Beverage at Singapore Airlines, "is essential for the comfort of passengers on long flights."
"The goal is that within three hours of departure, you already get the first meal. Then six to seven hours later (later) the crew will return, so in the middle of the flight you will eat a fairly large portion of food. If you want to sleep during the flight, you know you won't miss it," he said.
Zach Wichter said that on the way to Singapore he ate smoked salmon salad, garlic bread, sea bass with potatoes, Lindor chocolate balls, chicken noodles, lamb chops, red wine, tea and a Kit Kat bar. In addition, on the way home, Wichter received tea, water, smoked salmon salad, garlic bread, duck confit, chocolate mousse cake, red wine, chicken satay, and beef in polenta sauce.
In addition, given the length of this route, Wichter gave personal advice on sleeping on the plane. He says that when preparing for long flights, he follows a certain routine and uses sleeping pills.
"I try to book my flight as late in the evening as possible so that I am tired by the time I take off. I try to stay awake during the first meal service, which usually happens within the first hour or two after the flight, and have dinner so I don't wake up hungry in the middle of the trip. Then I take a dose of a well-known over-the-counter cough and cold medicine that makes me sleepy (in gel capsule form) while I wait for the food tray to be removed," Wichter says.
