An American stated that tips in the USA "have gotten out of control" and mentioned a country where the waiter did not take money for service
A Florida resident was outraged when his coffee bill included a mandatory tip. He said that the tipping culture in the United States is "out of control," while in Europe, it is more relaxed.
On TikTok, the American explained that he was willing to pay for good service in a restaurant with a full meal, but not for coffee. Additionally, the coffee shop customer was outraged that he was not asked if he wanted to pay extra for barista service.
"I wasn't asked if I wanted to tip, I had to leave a tip as part of my order. The woman flipped the screen to me and instead of pressing what percentage you want, it just said 'service charge,'" the angry American explained.
He compared this situation to a trip to Italy last summer. During a meal in an Italian restaurant, the tourist ate pizza, pasta, and drank wine. The service was excellent, so he wanted to thank the waiter.
However, the guest didn't see any additional service charges on his check, so he approached the Italian and asked how he could tip him.
In response, the American heard that this practice is not common in Italy.
"So, you move from Italy, where you can get the best service of your life and where there is no tipping, to Miami, where they pour you coffee and you have to tip or you won't get your coffee," the Floridian said.
